Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the commitment required to play Stingrays Soccer?
Each team plays 9 games in the Fall and 7 games in the Spring (always Sundays). Coaches will decide on the number of days each team will practice each week. (usually 2 days a week). Each team participates in one tournament in the Spring and one in the Fall. During the winter months, Stingrays offer training once per week as well as indoor league play - (Indoor league play is optional to be determined by each family and their child's availabilty/schedule). For more info please see Codes of Conduct located within this website.
2. Do I need to attend both tryout dates?
Although it is not mandatory that you attend both tryout dates, it is strongly encouraged that you attend both to give the coaches more time to view each players’ abilities.
3. How will I know if my child made the team?
The teams will be posted on the Stingrays website at www.southshorestingrays.com three days after your specific age groups final tryout.
4. What is and is not included in the Club Fee?
The Stingrays only charge their families for what is absolutely necessary to operate a successful program. We do not try to tell you when to spend your money on items that are not necessary every year, such as uniforms, warm ups and indoor league play.
Your Stingrays fee covers the following:
- All training field time
- All game field time
- MYSA insurance
- Professional Coaches
- League registration fee
- Two tournament registration fees per year
- SAQ/Plyometric training (Team specific, not a 100 players at once)
- College mentoring/assistance for U15s and older
Your Stingrays fee doesn’t cover the following:
- Uniform - $120 per kit (home & away jersey, shorts, socks). We do not roll a uniform fee into our Club fee because this is a fee that should not recur every year. Rather then telling our families they must pay for a new uniform every year and they must order it from the Club, we allow parents to decide when their child needs a new Kit and when they can afford one.
- All uniform kits are ordered by the parents directly through our supplier, Special Tees, without any additional "processing fee" charged to you.
- Warm Ups - Same as above. Many families may not want to incur the expense of a warm up right away, never mind every year. As such, we leave the decision of when to spend your money on such items entirely up to you.
- Indoor League Play - The Stingrays do not build a session of indoor into their club fee. We encourage our players to pursue their other interests throughout the year. Many players play basketball, dance, etc., during the winter months, so we do not charge our players for something that they may not utilize.
- Coaches' travel expenses, meals and hotel stays during tournaments. The Stingrays will never ask its families to pay for a coach's expense during tournaments.
5. My Child is a U10player, will he/she have one dedicated coach?
Absolutely. We treat all our teams equally in regards to the services that we provide. Unlike many other clubs that "herd" all U10's into one pool for training and then assign several different coaches to appear at the game, the Stingrays assign one head coach per team, regardless of the age. Each team has a designated practice/training time and the practice is run by their coach. It is our belief that teams need and pay for the continuity and consistency of one coach's voice.
